This week’s designer tricks come from Steven Gambrel‘s airy Sag Harbor kitchen renovation.

Now of course we can’t all be lucky enough to have such a large space to play with. But, increasing your current window size (here a double-width window floods the space with light), adding a central skylight or just using a double row of pendants in place of more obvious spots can turn dark and dank into delightful and daylight.
Traditional country elements get a modern update with bold design statements:
- traditional subway tiles look modern in a floor to ceiling application with dark grout lines;
- highly patterned marble takes the place of soft veining adding contrast and texture on countertops and floors;
- a rustic wood table, in place of a traditional island, warms up the space, and
- industrial style pendants, instead of ceiling spots or under cabinet lighting, offset the country feel.
I really think this is the on trend look for the new country kitchen. Do you agree?
