I have never been one to shy away from art in the kitchen, in my view it is another place to express yourself with things you love. It can also help liven up and personalize what can often be a rather dull, cabinet filled space.

I know there is grease and smoke(?) in the kitchen, but if you cook with your extractor fan on and keep your art away from the vicinity of the stove, all should be well. In the McAlpine kitchen, artwork is kept above eye level with a collection of larger pieces (so you can still identify the subject matter) hung close to the ceiling and smaller works on the upper shelf.

I have never lived in a kitchen with this much open shelving, but I can see the attraction. Whilst you have to be somewhat organized, to prevent it looking like a thrift store, the ease of getting to everyday pieces has its benefits. This arrangement would work well in a guest house kitchen, so guests don’t have to perform the “guess the cupboard” routine.

These tricks offer such functional and stylish solutions to personalizing your kitchen – genius, right? Looking for more decorating ideas, check out all the Monday Moments.
